Small Fishley Holland Pottery dragonfly pin dish
A very small, but absolutely lovely, studio pottery circular pin dish, made by Fishley Holland Pottery, at Clevedon in Somerset. It is hand-decorated with a dragonfly in a cream slip over a speckled brown-grey glaze, and inscribed with FH on the base. It is just the right size for keeping small, precious things in, so you know just where you put them!
The Fishley Holland family have made studio pottery for seven generations, with the first pottery founded by George Fishley (b 1778) in North Devon around 1800. Members of the family taught, influenced and worked alongside some of the 20th century's biggest names in studio pottery. Members of the family are still producing pottery, more than 200 years later!
William Fishley Holland moved to Clevedon, North Somerset in the early 1920s, where he established the Fishley Holland Pottery, which finally closed in 1977.
