Hornsea Pottery 'Heirloom' milk jug and sugar bowl in Autumn Brown
A matching milk jug and sugar bowl by Hornsea Pottery in their popular and striking 'Heirloom' pattern, in the autumn brown colourway. The Heirloom pattern was designed by John Clappison in 1966 and was Hornsea’s first complete range of tableware. The range was in production for twenty years from 1967 and remains a great example of mid-century style.
Hornsea Pottery was was founded in 1949, by brothers Colin and Desmond Rawson with funding from local business man, Philip Clappison. The pottery started in a small terraced house in Hornsea in the East Riding of Yorkshire, but with the popularity of their modern designs, it soon grew and in the 1950s moved to larger factories, employing more people. Production finally ended in 2000, but the Hornsea Museum opened a permanent exhibition of Hornsea Pottery in 2008.
