Yeo Pottery slip-decorated vase by Bill Janes
A beautiful Yeo Pottery vase, hand-decorated over a glossy brown glaze with slip and sgraffito patterns, including bands of striped leaves, triangles of white slip spots with wavy vertical lines, and a running band of chevrons and dots around the neck.
It is a great size for displaying bouquets of flowers, but is also a gorgeous piece of studio pottery to simply admire.
Made by William Charles (Bill) Janes, 1914-1988, at Yeo Pottery, Newhouse Cottage, Moor Lane, Clevedon, Somerset. Bill Janes began his own pottery at his home, having worked at the nearby Fishley Holland pottery in Clevedon until it closed in 1977. He began his pottery career when he joined Fishley Holland in 1946 and his Yeo Pottery pieces have a similar style to many Fishley Holland pieces.
